Mile by Mile Course Description and Road Closures
7:55 AM – Racing Wheelchair Start
8:00 AM – Run Start
By 7:00 amall traffic control equipment will be set up and all traffic control personnel on post. A soft closure will be in effect until 7:55 AM. At 7:55 the wheelchair race starts and the course is closed to traffic (hard closure). Some traffic metering may be possible in the latter miles of the course if needed. Metering will be discontinued as the first participant (wheelchair) passes each traffic position and not be resumed until the last participant has passed or the pack has thinned out enough to do so safely. This determination will be made by SJPD personnel on-site.
Measurements and Road Closure Timeline:
START – On Santa Clara Street at Almaden Ave. Running east, whole road is closed. Start line area of Santa Clara St. between Almaden Blvd. and San Pedro St. closed Sunday from 4 AM to 11 AM. Start line staging area of Almaden Blvd. (both sides) from Santa Clara Street to Park Ave. closed Saturday 8 AM to Sunday 2 PM.
0.2 – Cross 1st Street.
0.3 – Cross 2nd Street.
0.5 – Past 5th Street, City Hall on the right.
0.9 – Left at 11th Street, whole road closed. Santa Clara Street east of San Pedro open to traffic at 8:45 AM.
1.7 – Left at Jackson Street, whole road closed. 11th Street open to traffic at 9:15 AM.
2.0 – Cross 7th Street.
2.2 – Right at 4th Street, whole road closed. Jackson Street open to traffic at 9:30 AM.
2.7 – Left at Hedding Street, whole road closed.
2.8 – Left at 2nd Street, whole road closed. Hedding and 4th Street open to traffic at 9:45 AM.
3.7 – Over RR tracks then right at Bassett Street (one way towards runners), whole road. 2nd Street open to traffic at 10 AM.
3.8 – Cross 1st Street.
3.9 – Left at San Pedro Street, whole road closed.
4.3 – Right at Santa Clara Street, runners stay to their right (northbound) side. San Pedro St. open to traffic at 10:15 AM.
4.4 – Under the Start banner, thru corral zone past Almaden Blvd., stay to right.
4.5 – Under the 87 freeway. Off ramp closed 4 AM to 1 PM.
4.8 – Past HP Pavilion on the right, runners stay to right.
4.9 – Road dips under the train tracks.
5.4 – Right at The Alameda, runners stay to their right side of road.
6.2 – Left at University Ave., whole road closed.
6.5 – Cross Park Ave.
6.7 – Cross Dana Ave., stay to the right on University.
7.05 – Right at Bascom Ave., runners stay to their right side of the road to past Hedding St. University Ave. open to traffic at 11 AM.
7.1 – Cross Hedding Street move to left side of the road (left of the cement island). Northbound traffic from westbound Hedding Street allowed.
7.3 – Under the 880 freeway. North bound 880 off ramp closed 6 AM to noon.
7.6 – Left at Newhall Street, whole road closed.
7.9 – Left at Monroe Street, whole road closed. Newhall open to traffic at 11:15 AM.
8.4 – Left at Hedding Street, whole road closed. Monroe open to traffic at 11:30 AM.
8.9 – Right at Bascom Ave., runners stay to their right side of the road to past University Ave.
9.1 – Left at Emory Street, whole road closed. Bascom Ave. and Hedding Street open to traffic at 11:45 AM.
9.5 – Right at Dana Ave., whole road closed.
10.0 – Left at Hester Ave., whole road closed.
10.2 – Left at Park Ave., narrow turn inside cement island, whole road closed.
10.8 – Right at Emory Street, whole road closed. Dana, Shasta and Park open to traffic at 12:00 pm (noon).
11.2 – Right at The Alameda, runners stay to their right side of the road. Emory Street open to traffic at 12:15 PM.
11.8 – Left at The Alameda/Race Street, runners stay to their right.
12.4 – Past HP Pavilion on the left, runners stay to their right.
12.7 – Under the 87 freeway. Off ramp closed 4 AM to 1 PM.
12.8 – Right at Almaden Blvd., right side of the road. The Alameda and Santa Clara Street west of San Pedro open to traffic at 12:30 PM.
13.0 – Left at Park Ave., left side (westbound).
13.1 – FINISH on Park Ave. just before Plaza de Cesar Chavez in front of Bank of America.
A portion of Park Ave and some of the roadway surrounding Cesar Chavez Plaza will be closed Saturday morning. These roads will be the last to reopen, approximately 5 PM on Sunday.
